Metamorphosis Monday and Chocolate Zucchini Cake

This is a project I made for my daughter Sloan's bedroom.

Here's a fun way to make a box into a dresser catch-all. You need a sturdy box.

The way this one is made, I can do two out of it!

Then you find your son and tell him you want to teach him how to use a can of spray paint.

This is a fast easy project to do, and if the paint runs a little, it gets covered up anyway!

I also spray painted some little wooden doll head, 4 for each box, then I hot glued them on. I cut some fabric scraps and tied one around the box, hot gluing the ends down. Then I made a pink rose out of some more fabric scraps and hot glued it on.

There they are, two very cheap dresser catch-alls! Now head on over to Between Naps on The Porch and see what everyone else is up to for Metamorphosis Monday! Wait a minute, don't go yet! You have to see this yummy Chocolate Zucchini Cake recipe my son Chauncey helped me make!

I think this is one of the best chocolate cake I've ever had! And it has zucchini in it, so it's kind of healthy. Ok, I know, it's got some fat in it, but it has some yogurt too! It would even be good without the frosting. So, if you have some zucchini in your fridge, listen for the voice, do you hear it? It's saying....you need chcocolate cake! I found this recipe at The Repressed Pastry Chef. When Chauncey saw the recipe on my Google Blogger he said we had to make it!

Chocolate Zucchini Cake

1 stick butter
1/2 cup oil
1 3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup sour cream, I used yogurt
2 cups grated zucchini, I leave the skin on
1/2 cup chocolate chips, optional

Frosting (I used a this frosting recipe, the original is different)

3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/4 to 1/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

In a bowl beat the butter, oil, sugar, vanilla and eggs.

In another bowl whisk the dry ingredients.

Add the dry ingredients alternately with the yogurt and zucchini. Beat in the chocolate chips.

Pour into a greased 9x13 inch pan and bake at 325 for 35-40 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.

When the cake is cool, beat the frosting ingredients together in a mixer. Pour over cooled cake, and spread.

What beautiful catch all boxes you made. Love this idea. I've baked zucchini cake before, but never chocolate zucchini cake. This sounds delicious. What a handsome helper you had. Nice to make memories with our children..
Happy MM hugs ~lynne~

My chocolate zucchini cake recipe is almost the same. I love this cake too. I can almost taste it from looking at your great photo.

I love the boxes-catchalls! They are really cute and easy. I could so get my son to spray paint for me.

Thanks for sharing these items. Wonderful as always.

Have a wonderful week.
