Work For Me Wednesday, Maple Scones, And a Contest!
It's time for Work For Me Wednesday! Here's an idea I came up with a while back for an old make up case!
This has been so handy to keep near my sewing machine!
I was browsing through one of my cookbooks and I came across a recipe for maple biscuits, and I thought that sounded good, but I thought maple scones sounded better. I had to tweak it a little because it called for maple sugar and I don't even think I could get that locally. I really like the sour cream in the recipe. I used a lite sour cream and they turned out with a very nice texture and the flavor was wonderful, just like eating a maple bar! So here's my recipe.
Maple Scones
2 1/4 cups flour
3/4 teaspoon soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon allspice
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup sour cream
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon maple flavoring
In a large mixing bowl measure the flour, soda, salt, allspice and brown sugar. Whisk with a wire whisk until mixed well. Mix the maple flavoring with the beaten egg and add to flour mixture along with the sour cream. Mix with a wooden spoon, until just mixed. I had to use my hands. Knead on a floured surface about 10 times. Pat into a ball then flatten and pat into a circle about 3/4 inch thick. Cut into 12 wedges. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Spread with maple glaze while hot.
Maple Glaze
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 -3 tablespoons sour cream
1/2 teaspoon maple flavoring
Mix in a small bowl with a hand mixer until glossy. Spread over hot scones.

That's a great idea! I've definitely got bags like that just laying around that I could totally make into something useful like you did...
that looks good. I'm not a fan of maple though. But I might have my mother in law try this out. I'll let ya know what she thinks.
Ok- I FINALLY tried this today and they are AMAZING!!!! I was really nervous I did something wrong because the dough was pretty sticky but they ended up being DELISH! Thanks Carol for all your great recipes.
