Homemade Oreos

My family loves Oreos, so when I came across this recipe I had to try it! I used a little mint flavoring and green food coloring in the filling because Sloan loves mint. I made my cookies small like Oreos, so it made quiet a few, but if you make them bigger there won’t be as many. I want to make them again with orange filling with orange and brown sprinkles dipped on the edges.

Homemade Oreos

1 1/4 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/4 sticks butter, room temperature
1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 cup butter, room temperature
1/4 cup vegetable shortening
2 cups powdered sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla(I used 1 teaspoon mint and a few drops of green food coloring)

~I doubled the amount of filling because I wasn’t sure if it was enough.~

Heat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl whisk all the dry ingredients.

In a mixer beat the butter and the sugar for 3 minutes. Add the egg and the vanilla. Mix in the dry ingredients. Roll into balls and slightly flatten on a cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes. Let cool on cookie sheet for 1 minute then remove to cookie coolers to cool completely before filling.

For Filling

In a mixer beat the butter and shortening for 1 minute, add the vanilla, then slowly add the powdered sugar. Beat for 3 minutes on high.

Fit a pastry bag with a 1/2 tip and fill with filling. Pipe onto a cookie and top with a second cookie.

Wow! I love oreos! Amazing recipe! I had no idea that oreos can be made at home. I didn't even think of how you would even go about making them. Thanks for sharing! I hope you enjoy your week!

This is the first I've seen an Oreo recipe from's usually the box cake recipe. I'm assuming this is a softer cookie, rather than a crispy one?
