Work For Me Wednesday and Old Fashioned Brownies

Today's Work for Me Wednesday tip came by trail. Mainly cleaning up after I'd thawed meat in the refrigerator! When I put a package of meat in the refrigerator that has come straight from the meat counter and hasn't been re-packaged, I turn it upside down, usually on a plate, but sometimes it won't fit. By putting it upside down, the juices usually won't leak out all over.

I decided we needed something chocolate, so I got out this old cookbook again and found a brownie recipe. This one is more like a milk chocolate brownie. Everyone loved them, and they didn't last long. Mmm, nice and moist! I like that these don't use a lot of cocoa, it's a good recipe to keep on hand for when you're running low.

Old Fashioned Brownies

1 cup brown sugar
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter
5 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9x13 pan with Pam.

In a medium bowl whisk the flour, cocoa and salt.

Cream butter, shortening, brown sugar and sugar for 3 minutes. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Add the dry ingredients. Spread in prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes.

I will have to try that. I usually just put it in a gallon ziplock so I don't have a mess in the fridge!

Great tip on the meat...I always shove things over and make room. The ziplock bag is a good idea too!

Yum... I am so bad, I usually make a mix. Ugh. But this recipe looks terrific!
