Sausage gravy and biscuits is listed on the reader board at our local Arby's. It always makes me kind of laugh because it seems like such man food, and something so cheap and also pretty inexpensive. It's not one of my favorite things, but every time I make it and taste the gravy to get the seasonings right I always think, this is pretty good stuff! I decided to make some for dinner the other night, and my hubby was so happy. I tried a new recipe for the biscuits, and I loved how easy they were to make! You don't have to cut in any butter, so it's almost as easy as the stuff in a box, but I think these taste better! Sloan didn't want any, but then she tasted her dad's and asked if she could have a small dish! I love it when she ends up liking something that she didn't think she'd like!

Sour Cream Biscuits

2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon soda
3 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 cup sour cream
1/4 - 1/3 cup water

heat oven to 450 degrees.

Whisk the dry ingredients in a bowl. Add the sour cream and 1/4 cup water. Mix with a wooden spoon until it comes together adding more water if necessary to form a ball. Pat onto a floured surface about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into circles with a cutter or a glass. Bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown.

Yup, that's my hubby, he couldn't wait to get his hands on a biscuit!

Sausage Gravy

1 pound breakfast sausage
3 cups milk
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup flour
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion salt

In a large skillet fry sausage. Drain off the fat. Add the butter to the sausage and melt. Stir in the flour and stir and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add the milk and seasonings and stir until thick and bubbly. Cook for a few minutes adding more milk if it seems to thick. Serve over biscuits.

I think I'll make that for dinner tomorrow! I've been trying to do 'breakfast for dinner' once a week, it's nice to have that break from the kitchen!

I grew up on biscuits and gravy and LOVE it! I make the gravy a bit different, but think I'll experiment with your way the next time I make them. I'm always on the lookout for a good biscuit recipe too, so thanks for sharing.
