Cracked Rookie Cookies and a Contest!

I found this recipe in an old cookbook I bought at a garage sale years ago. I think the cookbook is from Iowa. This is a great recipe! It has simple ingredients but taste a little different than a sugar cookie. I love the way the top cracks! We put some strawberry frosting between some and made sandwich cookies. The family loved that!

Cracked Rookie Cookies

1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
2 1/2 flour
2 teaspoons soda
2 teaspoons cream of tartar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a bowl whisk the soda, cream of tartar and flour.

In a mixer beat the sugars and butter for 3 minutes. Beat in the egg and vanilla.

Mix in the flour mixture. Roll in walnut size balls and place on cookie sheets. Bake for 10 minutes.
