Soft Sugar Cookies and a Giveaway!

I'm so excited, I woke up this morning and found I have 48 followers! Wow, I feel so much emotion over that! It's so exciting! I've never had so many friends! I'll let you in on a little secret! Tuesday is my birthday (it's also Ground Hogs Day) and I'll be, yikes, 51 years old! I've been practicing saying it because part of me just can't believe it. I was thinking it would be so cool if I had 51 one followers too! Of course if I had more than 51 followers that would be out of this world! So, if you're reading my blog and you're not a follower, and if you're feeling rather generous, would you mind just reaching up and clicking on Friend Connect up on the top left column and be my friend? Then you can picture me doing the happy dance and walking on clouds, and maybe I'll kind of forget that I'm going to be 51 years old in a few days!

I found this recipe over at Sumo's Sweet Stuff and had to try it for some valentine cookies. Her recipe called for margarine and I used butter and her mixing directions were also a little different. I thought they turned out really good. I made them for the young women from church to decorate. I don't know what they ate more of, the cookies or the frosting as they were decorating them!

Soft Sugar Cookies

3 c flour
1 1/2 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
1 c sugar
1 cup soft butter
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Beat the sugar and butter for 3 minutes. Add the egg, milk and vanilla and beat well.

In another bowl whisk the flour, powder and salt.

Add the flour mixture and mix until well combined. Roll out on a floured surface and cut into shapes. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Cool on cooling racks. Frost.

Butter Frosting

1/3 cup butter
4 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
few drops red food color

In a bowl beat the butter and gradually add 2 cups of the powdered sugar. Beat well. Add the milk and vanilla and red food coloring and mix well. Gradually add the remaining powdered sugar and beat until fluffy. Spread on cooled cookies.

I found a great giveaway over at Kevin and Amanda for a blog makeover!
