The Watchers by Sophia Zufa
The Watchers is about how an ordinary citizen of the German Democratic Republic could be persuaded and coerced into steeling documents from his work. Wilhelm Eugen Weber embarked on an adventure that changed his simple life. People had been watching him for a long time and used all the information they found to manipulate him.
I found this book very enjoyable to the point where it was hard to put down at times. It amazed me how much Wilhelm’s government knew about him, an ordinary citizen. He led such a simple life and yet he was being watched. This book confirms the fact that I’m happy I live in America!
